Natural Gas or LPG?
I work on both, and can tell you what suits your property.
🏙️ Natural Gas
Piped to your property from the gas network, so it never runs out and there are no bottles to swap. It's only available in some Sunshine Coast streets and estates, so the first step is checking whether your property is connected.
🏡 LPG (Bottled Gas)
Stored in 45kg cylinders or a larger tank, so it works anywhere. It's the usual choice for hinterland, acreage and older coastal homes. An automatic changeover regulator means you're never left without gas mid-cook.
Carbon Monoxide & Gas Safety
Carbon monoxide has no colour, smell or taste, and it's produced when gas doesn't burn properly. Blocked flues, poorly ventilated heaters and old or unserviced appliances are the usual causes.
Warning signs include yellow or lazy flames, soot around an appliance, and headaches or drowsiness when a heater's on. If you notice any of these, stop using the appliance and get it checked. I'll test the appliance, check the flue and ventilation, and fix what's needed.

How much does a gas fitter cost on the Sunshine Coast?
Small gas repairs start from $190 including the compliance certificate, and gas regulator replacements from $380, inc GST during business hours. Appliance installs, outdoor kitchens and new gas lines get a fixed quote before I start.
Do I need a licensed gas fitter to install a cooktop or BBQ?
Yes. In Queensland, all gas work, including connecting a cooktop, oven or BBQ, must be done by a licensed gas fitter and certified. Unlicensed gas work is illegal, can void your insurance and is a real safety risk.
What should I do if I smell gas?
Turn off the gas at the meter or bottle if it's safe, open doors and windows, don't use switches or naked flames, and get everyone outside. Call your gas supplier's emergency line, or 000 if there's immediate danger. Once it's safe, call me to find and repair the leak.
Can you run gas to an outdoor kitchen or BBQ?
Yes. I run a dedicated line from your existing supply, fit the right connections and isolation valve, test for leaks and certify it to AS/NZS 5601. It works on natural gas or LPG.
Do you work on LPG as well as natural gas?
Yes. LPG is common on hinterland, acreage and older coastal homes. I install and repair LPG bottle setups, regulators, changeover valves, gas lines and appliances.
Why is my gas flame yellow or weak?
A yellow, lazy or weak flame usually points to a failing regulator, a dirty burner or a supply problem, and it can mean the gas isn't burning cleanly. Stop using the appliance and get it checked.
Do I get a compliance certificate?
Yes. Every gas job is certified to AS/NZS 5601, and you get a compliance certificate for your records. It's important for insurance, rentals and when you sell.
