Blocked Drain Clearing Across the Sunshine Coast
Toilet overflowing? Water sitting in the shower? Gurgling sinks, or the yard flooding every time it rains? I'm Damian, owner of PAGE Tradie Plumbing & Gas, and clearing blocked drains is one of the most common jobs I do, from Caloundra to Noosa.
Most blockages clear with an air snake or my RIDGID K-60 drain machine. If a drain keeps coming back, a CCTV camera shows exactly what's going on, whether that's roots, sand, a collapsed pipe or something that shouldn't have been flushed. When you call, you speak to me, not a call centre.

Whatever's blocked, here's what usually causes it and how I clear it.
Blocked Toilets
Overflowing or slow toilets are usually too much paper, wipes or something that shouldn't have been flushed. If more than one toilet or drain is slow, the problem is often further down the sewer line, and I'll clear it there.
Blocked Showers & Baths
Standing water in the shower is nearly always hair and soap scum built up in the waste. I clear it properly rather than just pushing it further down, so it doesn't come straight back.
Blocked Kitchen Sinks
Grease, fat and food scraps set hard in kitchen waste pipes over time. Slow draining or water backing up into the other bowl are the signs. I clear the line and let you know if anything needs fixing.
Blocked Sewer Lines
Several drains slow at once, gurgling toilets, or the overflow gully in the yard bubbling up? That's the main sewer line. I clear it with the K-60 and check it with a camera if it's likely to block again.
Tree Roots
Big trees and older clay sewer pipes are a common combination on the Sunshine Coast, especially in established suburbs. Roots get in through the joints and catch everything that comes down the pipe. I cut them out and show you on camera where they're getting in.
Stormwater Drains
Leaves, silt and coastal sand build up in stormwater lines, and the first heavy downpour floods the yard. I clear the line and find the cause, so it copes with the next storm.

How I Clear Your Drain

Air Snake & Drain Machine
Most blockages clear with an air snake or my RIDGID K-60, a heavy-duty cable machine that cuts through hair, grease, wipes and tree roots. It handles everything from a basin waste to a main sewer line.
CCTV Camera Inspection
If a drain keeps blocking, I put a camera down it to see exactly what's going on: roots at a joint, a sagging or cracked pipe, sand build-up or a foreign object. Then you can decide on a proper fix instead of paying for the same clear every few months.
High-Pressure Jetting, When Needed
For heavy grease, silt or long runs of root-filled pipe, high-pressure jetting scours the pipe clean. I arrange jetting when a job calls for it and tell you the cost before it goes ahead.

In beachside and canal suburbs like Mooloolaba, Kawana Waters and Pelican Waters, sand works its way into stormwater and sewer lines.
Wipes & Grease
"Flushable" wipes don't break down, and cooking fat sets hard in the pipe. Together they're behind most toilet and kitchen blockages.
Newer Estates
Even new homes in Aura, Palmview and Caloundra West block up, often from building debris or wipes in lines that have only been in a few years.
How to Prevent Blocked Drains
A few simple habits keep most drains flowing.
- Put cooking oil and fat in the bin, never the sink
- Use sink strainers and empty them regularly
- Fit hair catchers in showers and clean them weekly
- Only flush toilet paper, never wipes, even "flushable" ones
- Keep outdoor drains and gutters clear of leaves
- Plant trees well away from your sewer line

Can I clear a blocked drain myself?
A plunger can shift a simple blockage near the plughole. Anything deeper, like a sewer line, tree roots or a drain that keeps coming back, needs proper equipment. Harsh chemical drain cleaners can damage older pipes, so it's worth calling before you try one.
What causes blocked drains?
Hair and soap in showers, grease and food in kitchen sinks, wipes and too much paper in toilets, and tree roots and sand in sewer and stormwater lines. On the Sunshine Coast, roots in older clay pipes and sand near the coast are especially common.
How do you find where the blockage is?
For drains that keep blocking, I use a CCTV drain camera that travels through the pipe and shows exactly where and what the problem is. That means no guesswork and no unnecessary digging.
Will clearing the drain damage my pipes?
No. Drain machines and jetting are designed for the job and are safe for household pipes when used properly. If a pipe is already cracked or collapsed, the camera will show it, and I'll explain your options before doing anything else.
How can I stop my drains blocking again?
Use strainers and hair catchers, keep fat out of the sink, only flush toilet paper and keep outdoor drains clear. If roots are the problem, a camera inspection shows where they're getting in so it can be repaired properly.
