Why Service Your Hot Water System?
Most people don't think about their hot water until it stops. By then, a used-up anode has often let the tank rust through, and a cheap service has turned into a full replacement.
I'm Damian, owner of PAGE Tradie Plumbing & Gas. A service is a proper check of the parts that wear out, done by a licensed plumber and gas fitter, with a straight answer on the condition of your system.
What a Hot Water Service Includes
The parts that wear out, checked properly.
Anode Check & Replacement
The anode corrodes so your tank doesn't. Once it's used up, the tank starts to rust. I check it and replace it if it's gone, usually every 4 to 5 years.
Relief Valve Test
The temperature and pressure relief valve is a key safety device. I test it works and check it isn't dripping constantly, which can point to high mains pressure.
Tempering Valve Check
The tempering valve keeps bathroom hot water at a safe temperature. I check it's delivering the right temperature at the outlets.
Sediment Flush
Sediment settles in the bottom of storage tanks, takes up space and makes the system work harder. Flushing it out helps the tank heat properly.
Leaks, Fittings & Tank Condition
Valves, fittings, pipework and the tank checked for leaks, rust and corrosion, with salt-air damage a common one near the coast.
Gas Burner & Flue
On gas systems, I check the burner, pilot and ignition, gas connections and flue, so it's burning cleanly and safely.

Damian at P.A.G.E. Tradie did an awesome job on my bathroom refurbishment. The work included the shower, basin, bath, floor tile repairs, and bringing the hot water system up to compliance.
From the start, Damian had great communication and provided a really thorough quote so I knew exactly what to expect. The work was completed quickly and efficiently, and everything was done to a high standard. He was reliable, professional, and clearly takes pride in his work.
What really stood out was the follow-up after the job was completed to make sure everything was still perfect. That level of service is rare these days.

Exceptional service from P.A.G.E. Tradie – Damian Hall
Damian from P.A.G.E. Tradie was outstanding. Although he couldn’t fix my hot water system himself, he went above and beyond by organising an electrician who could come out the same day. That level of care and initiative is rare and genuinely appreciated.
His fee was extremely affordable, and his honesty and professionalism really stood out. I felt completely supported throughout the whole process.
Highly recommend Damian and P.A.G.E. Tradie for their integrity, prompt communication, and genuine commitment to helping their customers.
He is a wizard at many facets of plumbing and also a sincere honest gentleman.
He quoted on Friday and installed the required tap on the Monday morning. Turned up on time.
The task involved running a new pipeline to the outside of the house and he also found a fault with our rainwater tank and fixed the fault. Barry and I were recommended Damien by Friends and neighbours and are so pleased.
We highly recommend him.
thank you Damien
When the plumber came out, Damian Hall, I explained to him the problem we were having with our water tank and he new straight away what I was talking about.
I would like to thank Damian Hall for his prompt response and the good work he achieved. I highly recommend him if you are looking for a plumber on the Sunshine Coast. They are the go-team for any plumbing work you may have. 5 out 5 Damian !
It was a pleasure to have Damian in my home. He was professional, polite and offered good advice along the way. He listened to and accommodated all my requests.

Thanks Damian 👍
It's hard to show your work because most of it is behind the walls!!!
Simple Checks You Can Do Yourself
A few minutes every few months. Leave anything technical to a licensed plumber.
Look Around the Base
Check for water, rust or crusting around the tank and fittings every few months. Anything wet that isn't the relief valve drain is worth a call.
Ease the Relief Valve Lever
Most manufacturers recommend gently lifting the relief valve lever every 6 months. Water is hot, so stand clear. If it won't stop running when you let go, call me.
Watch the Hot Water
Rusty water, rumbling while it heats, or running out sooner than it used to are early signs a service or repair is due.
Gas Systems
Keep vents and flues clear. If you ever smell gas, turn it off at the meter or bottle, get outside and call for help.
Landlords & Property Managers
Hot water is the most common urgent call from tenants. Servicing rental hot water systems between tenancies, or when a tenant reports rusty water or a dripping valve, catches problems before they become an after-hours job.
I deal directly with property managers, arrange access with tenants, and send the invoice and notes on the system's condition straight through.

Service, Repair or Replace?
If your system has already stopped working, you need a repair, not a service.
Old, rusted or leaking from the tank?
Over 10 years old or leaking from the tank itself usually means replacement.

Hot Water Servicing FAQs
Straight answers to the questions I get asked most.
How often should a hot water system be serviced?
Most manufacturers recommend a service every 5 years, which lines up with when the anode usually needs replacing. Gas systems, solar systems and tanks near the beach benefit from more regular checks. If your system has never been serviced and is over 5 years old, it's due.
How much does a hot water service cost?
I give you a fixed price for the service before I start. If the anode, a valve or an element needs replacing, I'll show you and price the part before fitting it, so there are no surprises on the invoice.
What's an anode and why does it matter?
The anode is a metal rod inside storage tanks that corrodes so the tank doesn't. Once it's used up, the tank starts to rust and eventually leaks. Replacing it, usually every 4 to 5 years, is one of the cheapest ways to help a tank last longer.
Does servicing make a hot water system last longer?
Yes. The most common reason storage tanks fail early is a used-up anode letting the tank rust through. Regular anode replacement, a sediment flush and checking the valves deal with the main causes of early failure.
Is it normal for my relief valve to drip?
A small amount of dripping while the system is heating is normal. A constant flow usually means a worn relief valve or high mains pressure. A new valve, and a pressure limiting valve if needed, usually fixes it.
Do you service gas, solar and heat pump systems?
Yes. I service electric, gas storage, gas continuous flow, solar and heat pump systems from all major brands. Gas systems are checked by me as a licensed gas fitter.
Do you service hot water systems in rental properties?
Yes. I work with landlords and property managers across the Sunshine Coast, arrange access with tenants, and send the invoice and notes on the system's condition straight through.
